Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders are conditions that affect the jaw joints and surrounding muscles and ligaments.
It can be caused by trauma, an improper bite, arthritis, or wear and tear. Common symptoms include jaw tenderness, headaches, earaches, and facial pain.
Your temporomandibular joints are located on either side of your face, just in front of your ears. The TMJs connect your lower jawbone to your skull and help with movements such as chewing and speaking.
